Demographers say the number of Hispanics will equal that of white Americans by mid-year and exceed it in early 2014.
The shift is expected to affect politics and public policy in California, which also enjoys the history of being America?s trend-setting state.
Demographers say the share of Hispanics in the overall California population will keep surging to about 41% by 2020, when whites will make up less than 37%. By 2060, Hispanics could account for 48% of California?s population and have a total population of 11.6 million people.
?Due to California's diversity and because of its role as the primary gateway state for immigration, California will not age as rapidly in the coming 20 years as many other states," the report also said.
