Microsoft Confirms That Office 2013 Licenses Are Locked to Just One Computer

It is widely known that copies of Microsoft Office 2013 are locked to a single computer, however, Microsoft has now confirmed that the software's licenses cannot be reassigned to another computer, something that is possible with Office 2010.

Microsoft noted that Office 2013 could be reinstalled on the same computer after a crash, but if you have a penchant for frequently swapping out old computers for new ones, you're out of luck.

It seems the new rule is in place in order to entice consumers who frequently switch up their computers into purchasing an Office 365 subscription, which allows you to install Office on up to 5 computers for a monthly fee of about $12 per month. Office 365 also has some features that Office 2013 does not, which includes Outlook, Access and SkyDrive.
