Total fluff debate.
The background:
At my gym, we have 3 locker rooms: one for women, one for men, and one for families. The family locker room has an open room with lockers that anyone can see into, and then 4 individual little rooms with locking doors where families can go to change their clothes together. Each little room has a toilet, sink, shower, and small bench for changing.
There are posted rules about who can use the women and men's changing rooms. Namely, the signs say that no boys over the age of 3 are allowed in the women's room, and no girls over the age of 3 are allowed in the men's room.
As you might imagine, the family locker room is quite the popular destination around the time that swim lessons begin and end each day. It's great for anyone who has a "mixed sex" family that needs to get changed for swim lessons. By that I mean, moms with sons, or dads with daughters, or anyone who has sons and daughters.
The scenario: Last night after swim lessons, there was a very long line to get into the 4 family changing rooms. While I was waiting, I could hear the showers and then the hair dryers going in several of them. While standing in line, I noted that at least two of them had been occupied by single women (I mean, they didn't have their families in there with them, they were by themselves) who had apparently showered and dried their hair while families waited in line with dripping wet children. Presumably, since they didn't have anyone else with them, these women chose to go in the family changing rooms for the privacy that they afford, rather than showering and changing in the women's changing room. FTR, the showers in the women's changing room aren't like huge communal showers or anything, they are individual stalls with curtains, so still somewhat private.
The debate: There are no signs posted saying that single people can't use the family changing rooms, and certainly among families, they are first come first served. Do you think it's rude for single people to use the family changing areas, given that many families have no choice but to wait for one of the 4 changing rooms to open up (example: I can't go in the men's room, T is a bit too young IMO to send in by himself, and he's not allowed in the women's room) or do you think that single people have the same "first come, first served" rights as the rest of us? I'm not necessarily talking about "the rules", like should the gym ban singles from the family changing rooms, more just etiquette. Is it polite, or does polite even matter in that scenario?
I was totally annoyed with those women, but I admit that could just be because I had to wait forever and I was tired and hungry and hormonal. LOL
